1995 Pontiac Sunfire
In1995, Pontiac officials decided to replace the 13-year-old Sunbird. And the
Sunfire was born. The Pontiac Sunfire's targets are the young, on-the-go drivers
who want styling that's above and beyond the ordinary. Sunfire's designers' mission
was to make the sedan as sporty looking as the coupe so that buyers, particularly
young families, could enjoy the advantage of 4-door utility without sacrificing
exciting coupe styling. And with its gorgeous body styling and excellent features,
the Sunfire is a hit.

When the Sunfire was first introduced only two trim models are available, the
SE sedan and the SE coupe. But in the mid-1995, two more model trims were added
to the lineup, the SE convertible and the GT coupe. The SE coupe and sedan come
standard with a 2.2-liter 4-cylinder engine paired with a 5-speed manual transmission,
and the engine is rated at 120 horsepower. The GT coupe was outfitted in Pontiac's
characteristic racer look with dual exhausts, spoiler, black roof treatment and
a revised 150 horsepower 2.3-liter DOHC 16-valve Quad 4 engine. However, the Sunfire
is more than just looks and performance. The car's body features a steel safety
cage that surrounds the passenger compartment, energy-absorbing metal rails that
frame the engine and trunk compartments, and side-impact door beams. The Pontiac
Sunfire represents a significant improvement over its predecessor, the Sunbird.
The ride and handling are enormously superior and the styling is bolder. In appearance,
it's a baby Firebird for a fraction of the price, but for now, it only has a fraction
of the Firebird's performance.
