1997 Pontiac Sunfire
Four models of the Pontiac Sunfire are available: the SE coupe, the SE sedan,
the GT coupe and the SE convertible. The 2-door models, the SE coupe, the GT coupe
and the SE convertible, are sportier than the 4-door sedan. But the sedan is,
of course, more practical; it offers more room in the backseat and a bigger trunk
than the other models.

For 1997 model year, a 4-speed automatic became standard on the SE convertible,
no more manual shift was produced. A traction control system is available, but
only with the four-speed automatic. The soft top also gained intermittent wipers,
a defogger for the glass rear window, and standard cruise control. No changes
were made on the Sunfire?s standard engines. The SE coupe, sedan and convertible
still use the 2.2-liter overhead-valve four-cylinder engine that generates 120
horsepower and 130 pound-feet of torque and the GT that uses the GM's 2.4-liter
Twin Cam. No changes in appearance, too.
